How To Become a Certified Pool Operator in Florida

Are you interested in becoming a certified pool operator (CPO)? If you live in The Sunshine State, this is an ideal profession.

The weather in Florida is temperate and comfortable, even in the fall and winter. Swimming pools are a household staple and effective CPOs are always in high demand.

Thankfully, it’s easier than ever to receive your CPO certification online. With our proven approach, you can begin your dream career in only a few days.

Not sure how it works? Today, we’re sharing how to become the trusted certified pool operator Florida residents will keep on speed dial.

1. Sign Up for a Class

Your first step is to sign up for a CPO certification class. We know you’re busy, so all our classes are 100% online.

You don’t need to get in your car and drive anywhere, and we don’t have in-person class times to work around. As long as you have a computer and access to Zoom, you can get started!

Our CPO certification course is designed to provide you with all of the basic knowledge you need to pass the CPO exam. We’ll cover the data contained in all 18 chapters of the Pool and Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA) Pool & Spa Operator Handbook, including the glossary and appendices. This includes topics such as:

  • Pool management
  • Pool system components
  • Pool system maintenance
  • Water quality management
  • Pool and spa design
  • Special needs/requirements for hot water spas

To access the class, you’ll first need to choose your exam date. We offer many different dates each week on our website, designed to fit your schedule.

The cost of the online CPO certification course includes:

  • Complete e-learning access to course materials
  • A physical copy of the CPO Handbook
  • All required fees

Note that there is an additional $20 fee required for all Florida residents. This is because The State of Florida Health Department requires the use of a third-party proctoring service known as Prometric.

While most students can register directly on our website, Florida residents will need to follow choose an exam date and time on the Prometric website. Prometric does offer 2 options to take the test, online or they have many in person locations. Its reccomended to test your computer’s compatibility prior.

2. Take the Course

Once you purchase the course, you’re free to start and complete the training on your own time. The material is self-paced, so you can start and stop as required. You can study in the evening when you get home from work, during your downtime on the weekends, or any other time that works for you.

In all, you can expect the CPO certification online course to take around eight to 10 hours to complete. Some students find it easiest to complete all of the modules at once, while others prefer to space them out a little. Again, there’s no right or wrong way to take the course and you’re free to do what works best for you and your schedule.

As you study, be sure to take notes! You’ll be able to use them later, and it’s easier to reference them than to search back through the material to find the information you need. While you’re accessing the course, you also have access to your instructor, who’s available via email or phone to answer all of your questions.

3. Complete the Review and Exam

Once you complete the CPO course, the only thing left to do is complete one final review and take your exam!

When you’re ready, you’ll attend a five-hour online review session to make sure you’re completely comfortable with the topics. The review session may include a few other virtual students, but the class sizes are always small. During the review, you’ll learn all of the most important points to remember, and how to take notes so you can pass the final exam.

Then, you will take your official final exam online.

The open-book, open-note exam will consist of 50 multiple-choice questions and you will have up to three hours to complete it.

If you’re worried about your test-taking abilities, don’t be. You don’t have to be a wizard on the computer or excellent at math to score well on this exam. We equip you with everything you need, and 98% of our students pass on their very first attempt!

4. Print Your Certification

Once you pass the online CPO certification exam, you’re ready to go! Your official certificate will arrive in your inbox the following business day. You’ll also receive a physical, mailed copy within 1 to 2 months.

However, you don’t have to wait that long to start your career. You can access and print the CPO certification right at home immediately. This is especially convenient if you need to show proof of certification to a manager before you can begin work.

Your certification will last for five years from the date that you passed the exam. When it’s time to renew, you know where to go!
